TRAINING PROGRAMMESCertificate Programme in Early Childhood Development Leadership, Management & AdministrationThis programme involves a broad range of participatory and experiential learning techniques in which practical work plays an important part. Anyone who is involved in ECD where leadership, management and administration skills are required should enrol for the programme including Directors, Managers, Community Workers, Trainers and Fieldworkers. The minimum entrance requirement is Grade 12 with at least 3 years experience in early childhood development. This programme consists of 7 modules: Early Childhood Development in South Africa; Managing Organisations; Planning; Leadership; Human Resource Management & Development; Financial Management & Control and Programme Evaluation.
Early Childhood Development Leadership & Management Training Programme for Community-based PractitionersThis training programme offers community-based early childhood development practitioners the opportunity to build on their leadership and management skills. The programme enables participants to manage their projects/organisations more effectively and efficiently. The programme is aimed at preschool coordinators, motivators, educare principals and supervisors, administrators and ECD practitioners employed in community-based projects. The programme consists of 6 modules: Programme Management; Community Development; Human Resource Management; Leadership Skills; Financial Management and Working with Adults.
Trainers Development Programme in Early Childhood DevelopmentThis programme is designed to enhance and strengthen the training skills and capacity of early childhood development trainers at local, provincial and national levels. Individuals working in government, non-government and community-based early childhood development organisations are especially invited to participate. The programme consists of 6 modules: Early Childhood Development policy, practice and developments; The Training Environment; Planning the Learning Experience; Participatory Learning Techniques; The Use of Audio-visual Aids and Managing the Learning Experience.
Early Childhood Development Practitioner Training ProgrammeThis programme has been designed for early childhood development practitioners who work directly with a group of children. Training can be completed at 2 levels: Level 1, a General Education and Training Certificate and Level 4, a Further Education and Training Certificate on the National Qualifications Framework. These training programmes cover the 3 Core Unit Standards: Facilitate Active Learning; Facilitate Healthy Development and Manage the Learning Programme as well as a selection of electives.
Management Committee TrainingThis programme has been designed for management committee members of community-based early childhood development centres. The programme enhances the leadership, management and administration skills of committee members, supporting them in improving the management of early childhood development centres in their communities. The programme is aimed at committee members, parents of children attending early childhood development centres and other community members. The programme consists of 9 modules: The Roles & Responsibilities of Committee Members; Leadership & Management Skills; Project Planning; Community Development; Financial Management & Control; Fundraising; The Employment Process; Training & Development; Literacy & Numeracy Development within communities; and Project Evaluation.
Combating HIV and AIDSThis programme aims to combat the spread of HIV infections and AIDS through education programmes targeted at all key stakeholders in early childhood development. This programme provides information to the early childhood development sector on HIV/AIDS and promotes values and practices which inculcate respect for women and girls. This programme is aimed at early childhood development practitioners, community management committee members and parents of preschool aged children.
Organisational DevelopmentThis programme enhances the capacity and effectiveness of ECD organisations. It develops and sustains effective structures, systems and procedures for high quality management and develops organisational competencies - the understanding, knowledge, skills and attitudes - appropriate to the day-to-day leadership and management of ECD organisations. This programme has 5 key components: Strategic Direction; Developing Organisational Structures and Systems; Human Resource Development; Resources & Networking; and Promoting Partnerships & Communication.
CECD - IBM KidSmart Early Learning ProgrammeThe CECD - IBM KidSmart Early Learning Programme provides specially designed computer centres and teacher training to selected community-based ECD sites and Grade R classes in South African Public Primary Schools. The centrepiece of the KidSmart programme is the Young Explorer computer unit. A colourful "child proof" furniture unit with a built-in computer, keyboard and speakers. It includes comfortable seating for two and a study, well-ventilated lockable cabinet to keep the computer and wires out of the way. The KidSmart unit is loaded with award winning educational software that inspires creativity, helps develop problem-solving skills and actively engages children in the learning process.
